Monsoon

By Prakash Bista

This monsoon, there has been much damage caused by repeated landslides and floods. Seventeen people have died and around five hundred families are displaced. Many have lost everything: cattle, grains, clothes as well as their houses. Also, migrant workers, whose families were dependent on their incomes, have returned from India because of COVID-19 and are jobless now. Some NGOs and INGOs stepped up and gave support but it was nowhere near what is needed. Our school with support from the Britain Nepal Society purchased sacks of rice, lentils, salt and litres of cooking oil for one hundred and sixty families but the truck carrying these relief items was washed away by a landslide. BNS and our school are coordinating to find ways to order more food relief items for those in need. Thank you to all who have helped and sent donations.
